Training and socializing your new puppy is incredibly important! You and your puppy will live a much happier life together when you immediately begin training and socializing your new companion!
All matters pertaining to training hinge on consistent and clear commands started as early as possible in bringing your puppy home. Mountain Valley takes great pride in breeding for exceptional, sound temperaments in all of our dogs however the forms or training methods you choose or even lack in training and socializing will greatly produce differing results with their personalities. It is imperative that our puppy families take every opportunity possible, especially in the first year to train and socialize your Saint. For your Saint's own well-being as well as those in the household, it is crucial for your dog to know where they fit into your pack.
In the time where your puppy has NOT completed their series of vaccinations, public outings should be minimal if not non-existent. This is only temporary until that series is complete and your puppy is fully protected. It is your duty to protect your baby! In the meantime, work on basics such a potty training/schedule, crate training, basic commands, feeding schedule, and positive enrichment activities where you and your puppy bond.
Once your puppy has received their final vaccination in the series then the real work begins where you both are going out into public and meeting new people, new animals, experiencing new sights, smells, energies, etc. There are many businesses that welcome well behaved dogs, take advantage of this.
Another crucial point do not allow for your new puppy to jump on you, your family, or other people! Yes, we get it, puppies are so cute when they pop those front paws up for attention however this immediately turns into a risk especially when you have a 120-180lb dog jumping on people, plus the liability you are putting on yourself, others and your dog.
